What we are doing at News Magazines

News Magazines launched One Degree in June 2008 following a period of dramatic growth in 2007 with the acquisition of 25 new magazines. News Magazines publishes more than 30 leading magazine titles, including InsideOut, donna hay magazine, ALPHA, Big League, Vogue Australia, Australian Good Taste, delicious, GQ and Notebook.

News Magazines carbon footprint is being calculated and to make sure our base year carbon numbers are accurate, the emissions produced by these titles prior to amalgamation with News Limited have also been collated and added to our June 2006 footprint.

As the newest division to join One Degree, News Magazines will undergo an energy audit to identify potential areas of energy efficiencies and savings in 2008.

Despite the delayed start, many individual members of News Magazines have already become involved with One Degree, including a team from News Magazines at Bowen Hills (Queensland) who recently got out their wellies, gardening gloves and hats to spend half a day with the local branch of the Conservation Volunteers of Australia (C.V.A.).

The C.V.A. welcomes more than 10,000 volunteers a year from Australia and overseas and works in partnership with the federal and state governments to assist more than 2,000 priority conservation projects.

The C.V.A. achieves real conservation results; including planting more than 1 million trees a year. News Magazines staff did their bit by weeding, digging, planting, watering and mulching over 300 native trees, shrubs and grasses around one of the local creeks in the northern suburbs of Brisbane.
